Climate Action Campaign Bolsters Historic Climate Win

Updated: Apr 28, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last Friday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act (BBBA), a monumental bill containing a historic $550 billion in climate investments. This is the most significant investment in climate, clean energy, justice, and jobs that our nation has ever seen. This marked a milestone moment in a months-long, multi-state #ActNow campaign, organized by the Climate Action Campaign (CAC).

CAC and its coalition — which includes the nation’s leading environment, environmental justice, and public health groups — rallied advocates to build support for the Build Back Better Act in over 20 frontline House districts. Without these votes the Build Back Better Act would not be headed to the Senate for approval. In concert with its partner groups, CAC achieved the following:

  • More than 1,150 visibility events in 15 states

  • More than 19,232 activists who attended in-person and virtual events

  • More than 495,000 grassroots calls made to Members of Congress

  • More than 425,000 signatures on petitions

  • Letters signed by more than 8,400 veterans, faith leaders, scientists, youth leaders, and public health leaders to Members of Congress

  • 530 local news articles

  • More than 30.4 million #ActNow impressions

  • More than 44,700 Twitter mentions

  • 148 op-eds printed

Many of CAC’s priority members issued statements of support for the BBBA in the days leading up to the vote, including Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07), Rep. Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), Rep. Steven Horsford (NV-04), Rep. Susie Lee (NV-03), and Rep. Conor Lamb (PA-17).
